LOCATION: Jade Desert

The Jade Desert could fool one into thinking they had reached green meadows, but it’s only an illusion. In this barren place, the only life that exists is hearty shrubs, a couple of insect species, and the ever-adaptable reptilian Hyish people, who subsist on those shrubs and bugs.

CREATURE: Muul’dre

Long-legged grazer in the forest by Pontai’desa. At any sign of danger, the beetle-hide of this pray animal (herbivore) shimmers like a rainbow to alert its companions. Their low alarm cry, “Ruuu!” can be heard wailing as they dart into the undergrowth for protection from predators trying to eat them.

CREATURE: Predatory Bush-bird (yet unnamed)

“The beak connected to a long, rope-like neck, covered in moss, and a plump body atop two gangly legs, which Meleena had previously mistaken for sapling tree trunks... The gangly legs of the great bird were swift, its plump green body covered in moss rather than feathers, shining in dappled sunlight. ”

The Kelpie: They have become great companions of the Meruyan, who have a natural affinity for the animals, and thus formed a partnership: the Meruyan can ride them in exchange for food and lovingly spoiling their companion

CREATURE: Algae-Mane Falcon

The algae mane falcon": Falcon, with long barbed thorn tail, and algae crest and neck folds.

The villainous General of tactics, Malotus, is known for keeping one of these beauties as his pet and scout. Grimly’s favorite perch is on his master’s outstretching horns.

CREATURE: Rock lobster

The Rock Lobster: Rock lobsters are found underwater, and farmed by the underwater Meruyan of Pontai’Desa for a variety of crops: eggs, shed hide, and occasionally for meat.

As the rock lobsters grow, they naturally shed their thick carapace, which the farmers gather up and use for building, heavy-duty protective clothing, and can be carved down to make household objects.

LOCATION: Underwater City, Noyade

Noyade is the largest Meruyan habitation, the greater underwater city and its ‘suburbs’ near enough to the surface to feel the sunlight on their photosynthetic hair. Here we see a view of this fantastical city, the carved hillside and the dugout “buildings”, lit by bioluminescence.
